A few of our members have a long history volunteering at Hana Mission. During Christmas, we pack gifts and deliver them to Hana Mission ourselves. These gifts includes stationaries and toys for children, shampoos and bodywashes for adults, and candies and snacks for all ages.
We bring the entire Thanksgiving feast to the needing table of Hana Mission every year, too!
The CPR days of service on Saturday and Sunday, September 3rd and 4th, were held at Patterson, NJ. The team volunteered their time and efforts in a 3-prong venture over the course of two days, helping at Hana Mission’s Patterson Thrift Store, assisting a fundraising yard sale and clean up, and cooking/serving meals for the homeless.
Below are some of the highlights from the days of service.
Hana Mission Patterson Thrift Store (Saturday, September 3rd)
Took down an entire section of the wall, in a piecemeal fashion, in order to repaint and reattach the boards
Rearranging and placing display items on the shelves and racks
Moved heavy products such as a bed, dryers, washing machines, and other appliances, in order to arrange the store
Fundraising Yard Sale and Clean Up for Hana Missions Rehab Center (Sunday, September 4th)
Moved items and sorted/cleaned the Rehab Center Lot
Identified sellable items that would be used to generate profits for the Rehab Center
Cleaned up unusable items from the center, and created a tidy living area
Cooking and Feeding the Homeless in Patterson, NJ (Sunday September 4th)
The team cooked spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and fixings for the homeless in Patterson, NJ
The team also served these meals to members of the community who are not well off
The team also cleaned up after these meals were served
These events brought the CPR team together, in order to not only bond and grow as an organization, but also to serve and engage members of the community. Members of the team took away a positive experience that taught them that life can be very different for those who are less fortunate. The team is reinvigorated to have an even larger impact on the community moving forward.
Next up, the CPR team will be supporting International Peace Day on Wednesday, September 21st. The team is partnering with UNICEF in their March to end Violence and War. Be on the lookout to see how you can help out!
