CPR has been infuriated and urged to act, by the current ineffectiveness of conventional rehabilitation programs for people with substance use disorders. During 2021, in the midst of the Covid Pandemic, addictions surged and the “crisis deepen[ed]” (NPR). Yale University discovered that many for-profit rehab treatment programs charge ”inflated fees and use misleading sales” resulting in ineffective medical treatment (NPR).

Even those who have gone through treatment must be careful of relapse. Research demonstrates that common addictions such as alcohol, drug or opioids addictions have relapse rates of “80 to 95 percent” and other drugs having rates anywhere from 40 to 60 percent, with America specifically having rates higher than 85 percent (Hazelden Betty Ford ) (drug abuse). Many factors such as high stress or even a lack of financial aid in insurance, can contribute to a relapse. Moreover, former inmates are a demographic most at risk for relapse with studies from the National Library of Medicine in the United States, and other nations showing a “high risk of drug-related death after release from Prison” (NCBI).

As we closely work with local organizations such as Hana Mission dedicated to work with inmates to help expand their reach. For example, Hana Mission values transparency and The local, yet effective Hana Mission’s transparency and hands-on approach allows us to have confidence in their methods. Treating everything from alcoholism to substance addictions, Hana Mission has many different programs for people of all backgrounds and experiences; it offers group or individual therapy workshops, training programs to prepare for jobs and financial support and services. After rehab and treatment, they then employ former patients to help others.
